Underground, whose range of men’s and women’s footwear enjoys a cult following worldwide, has outsourced the task of managing its online and high street retail supply chains to Walker Logistics.
Before partnering with Berkshire-based Walker, Underground had employed the services of two individual logistics firms – one with responsibility for its B2B operation and another to fulfill internet sales.
The switch to Walker Logistics means that both channels to market are managed from the same facility – a move that brings significant cost and efficiency benefits.
Some 1500 shoe styles and sizes will be held at Walker’s multi-user facility from where they will be picked, packed and dispatched to retail outlets – including Underground’s iconic store in the heart of London’s Soho and department stores such as Selfridges and Lane Crawford – and directly to those members of the public who prefer to order online via the company’s website.
As an added value service, Walker will undertake quality control checks on every pair of shoes sold via Underground’s consumer website before they leave the fulfillment centre.
