Driver CPC has been quite a journey over the last 5 years. There have been bumps on the road but with over 26 million training hours logged and more than 664,000 drivers having completed periodic training to trigger their DQC, according to DVSA figures up to the eve of the 10th September deadline, this is a great reason to celebrate successfully reaching the end of this Driver CPC cycle. Skills for Logistics will be doing just that at a special event at John Lewis’ Grange Road Distribution Centre on 2 October.
Over 100 guests and an array of industry dignitaries will be joining the Skills for Logistics team, led by CEO Dr Ross Moloney, as well as representatives from host John Lewis. What better environment to discuss Driver CPC, training and recruitment issues and to network with fellow employers and training providers?
The DVSA figures show, as might be reasonably expected a last minute periodic training rush, which resulted in August achieving a record for training hours logged in one month at a staggering 1,609,791 – with almost 230,000 attendees. DVSA also reported that more than 86,000 have completed initial qualification and triggered their DQC, which means that over 750,000 DQCs have been triggered in total. The number of active drivers since 2008 is over 825,000.
Because the Driver CPC journey goes on, we have to keep looking further down the road at how we can improve it to deliver excellence to the industry, and how we can leverage Driver CPC to further professionalise the industry and thus attract the new – particularly young – recruits that our industry needs. The event will also launch Skills for Logistics’ Standard of Excellence Driver CPC, which will recognise excellent providers of Driver CPC Training. This will be an ideal vehicle for the continuing journey by providing a platform to assure individuals and businesses that quality training is being delivered to the highest standard. The road ahead then is looking excellent!
