Bis Henderson & The Logistics Guild support orangutan appeal

Uncategorized · October 31, 2014

The Bis Henderson Academy and The Logistics Guild have announced their combined support for the charity, Orangutan Appeal UK (OAUK), in its 2015 appeal to raise £300,000 for the rehabilitation and preservation of the endangered orangutan and the conservation of their habitat.

The appeal, launched at a special event held at the House of Commons on 28 October and hosted by Bill Wiggin MP, brought together over 80 MPs, conservationists, academics, TV personalities, and corporate leaders. The charity is looking to fund its ground-breaking post-release monitoring project for rehabilitated orangutans, a new rescue vehicle, on-going support of nursing and training staff in Borneo, veterinary equipment and the establishment of a new rescue centre in Indonesia.

The Bis Henderson Academy and The Logistics Guild are particularly keen to help OAUK in its support of collaborative initiatives to create sustainable supply chains, which both protect the orangutan’s habitat in Borneo and provide solutions for food producers in the cost-effective development and management of sustainable palm oil plantations.

Some of the world’s largest food companies, such as Nestle and Unilever*, are investing in new sustainable supply chain solutions for their products in many overseas countries and Bis Henderson, as a partner for executive recruitment, supply chain consulting and new talent acquisition, takes a detailed interest in such initiatives.

Paul Brooks, Managing Director of the Bis Henderson Academy said, “Bis Henderson has long been seen as taking the lead in doing things that are right for our industry. And our new Academy solution is engaging with both schools and young people to explain the impact of global supply chains, the role of logistics professionals within these supply chains and the breadth and depth of available careers. The fact that so many people came together at the House of Commons last night is testimony to how important an issue creating and managing sustainable supply chains is.”

“Our young people are growing up doing things that are ‘right’ and ‘friendly to the environment around us’. In my conversations in schools and colleges, especially in areas where logistics plays an important role in the local economy – especially for job creation – school leavers are very focused on the impact that companies have in the markets in which they source products. Sustainability is a very strong topic and I have been impressed by how knowledgeable young school leavers are on the topic.”

Through its involvement with The Logistics Guild, Bis Henderson also suppored an OAUK fundraising event at the world famous, Getty Images Gallery, London, on the 30 October, where photographer and award winning conservationist, Cede Prudente, exhibited his amazing wildlife pictures.

* Nestle and Unilever were listed as ‘fully committed’ in a survey, conducted by the Union of Concerned Scientists, into the top 10 largest global packaged food companies and their global commitment to the use of palm oil that is deforestation free, peat free and traceably and transparently sourced.
